If you’ve worked with other designers before, you’re probably used to the process of beginning with mockups—a static screenshot of what the site could look like before anyone sees any code. But let me let you in on a little secret: I don’t work that way. And it’s on purpose.
I design directly in the browser, no static mockups or pixel-perfect previews. Functional design that evolves as you go along. Here’s why that’s a far better fit for you.
“Designing in the browser means your site isn’t just visually appealing—it’s functional, responsive, and ready to scale.”
1. Websites are interactive. Mockups are not.
Mockups are just visuals, dude. Your site’s an experience! Something that seems great in Figma can turn out to feel pretty strange when it’s actually responsive or interactive. If I create it directly in the browser to begin with, I can test spacing, flow, and usability as I go along.
2. You get to test it out sooner.
No waiting weeks for mockups. You work with the actual site early, giving feedback when everything is still pliable. That equates to less surprise and faster progress.
3. It’s just so much simpler to tweak along the way.
Design is not linear. With live, we’re not committed to graphics that don’t translate. We can easily change layout, content, or graphics depending on what’s working.
4. It keeps you on target with the strategy.
Mockups have the potential to get us overthinking colors or fonts before we’ve even determined the content or objectives. Designing live keeps us grounded in what the site really needs to do, rather than how it should look.
5. You still have a lovely, one-of-a-kind design.
This isn’t some cookie-cutter position. You still receive a custom site that’s created specifically for your brand. We’re just making it happen where it matters—on the screen, not on some dull slide.
6. You receive precisely what you see.
My method skips the whole static mockup song-and-dance and gets you a real, live version of your site much quicker. You’re still in control, and we stay flexible.
Instead of looking at flat images, you’ll be looking at a staging site in real time as it’s being built. You’ll still be offering your feedback, tweaking imagery, and helping to craft the final product. We’re just cutting out the guesswork that mockups invariably generate.
